Hackathon Terms

These terms cover every hackathon listed on Mangrove. They sit alongside the Mangrove Privacy Policy, which governs your data everywhere on Mangrove.

Winners are public

Hackathon results are published. If your entry places, the public pages for that event show your project, its placement, and the names of the people on the entry. We do this to amplify people’s careers and stay transparent.

What stays private

Everything short of a placement stays inside the event. Public pages do not show entries that did not place, who registered, how many people registered, or member profiles. Registration details such as your availability and your email address are handled as described in the Mangrove Privacy Policy.

Who can take part

You must be at least 16 years old to use Mangrove, and that floor applies to every hackathon listed here.

Prizes

Each event states its prize pool up front, and the pool is committed before the event opens. Awards are decided by the event’s judges, and their decisions are final. Prizes are paid after results are published. To receive prize money you complete payout setup first: identity and bank verification happen with our payment provider, and Mangrove never sees your bank credentials. Prize recipients are responsible for their own taxes.

If a prize recipient is under 18, a parent or guardian who is at least 18 completes payout setup as the account representative with our payment provider and receives the prize on the recipient’s behalf.

You have 60 days from the day results are published to claim a prize. Claiming means completing payout setup within that window, not receiving the transfer. A prize that is not claimed within that window is released back to the event’s prize budget.

Hosts

Not every hackathon is run by Mangrove. Members and organizations can host events here. The host of an event sees its registration and submission information, meaning who registered, team rosters, scheduling availability, and entries, so they can run it. Hosts do not see your email address.

Conduct and removal

Submit your own work and treat people well. The event host and Mangrove can remove an entry or a participant from an event, for example for plagiarized work or harassment. A removed entry is not judged, cannot place, and does not appear in results.

Changes

These terms may change between events. Each event applies the version that was live when you registered for it.
